Extended family sessions are an all-inclusive price of $350

An extended family session is a wonderful way to document special moments with loved ones you might not see very often. Grandparents really appreciate getting the whole family together and it provides a special keepsake for everyone to enjoy for years to come.

Extended family is an add-on to my classic family session rate. “Extended” covers a pretty wide range as far as what family members and how many. I usually apply it to groups of six or more if those being photographed are outside the immediate family (for example, a family of four, plus two grandparents, would be an extended family session).

These sessions can also include cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents and/or family friends. I like to start with one large posed shot then move on to smaller family groupings with some lifestyle shots of the kids playing sprinkled in.

We’ll be aiming for either the first or last hours of daylight. Taking pictures close to sunrise or sunset means we get to work with soft, gorgeous light. If your session is downtown or another spot with plenty of buildings, we have more flexibility with the session time. Be mindful of the fact that some outdoor locations will not have a restroom available

When it comes to getting the most out of your photos, styling plays a big part. What you wear to your session can be the difference between a good shoot and a great one. "What do we wear!" is probably my most asked and worrisome part of booking a extended family session for my clients.

I recommend to dress your family members in neutral tones if possible, avoiding bright colors, heavy stripes, logos, pictures or words on clothing. There is no need to be in formal wear or have family in matching colors, just tones and styles that compliment each other and take the season into account. Darker or earthy hues such as olive, tan, rust, mustard suit autumn and winter, and lighter fresh colors such as cream, blush, tan, pastels for spring and summer. Chunky knitted sweaters, jumpers, cardigans and hats look lovely in autumn/winter photos too. Layer clothes or adding movement with a cardigan or dress goes a long way. Please wear comfy but tasteful shoes and avoid high heels as we will be walking in grass or in the sand, sometimes we are all barefoot!
